Senator Held Events in 11 Counties During 4th of July Week

Washington, D.C. – Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) held and attended numerous events across 11 counties during the Senate’s July state work period, meeting with constituents, local officials, veterans, and local business owners.

Senator Gardner held a public discussion about veterans’ issues with veterans and their families in Elizabeth.

“I appreciate the veterans and their families who joined me for a public discussion in Elizabeth,” said Senator Gardner. “I’m honored to represent more than 400,000 veterans in Colorado, and I’m committed to making sure they receive the best possible care. I encourage any veteran or their family who needs help with a federal agency to contact one of my local offices – we are here to help.”

In Lakewood, Senator Gardner continued his Main Street Walking Tour and met with local business owners and officials. He also toured the training facility for the West Metro Fire Protection District, which serves nearly 280,000 Coloradans across 110 square miles. West Metro Fire Rescue is the sponsoring agency of Colorado Task Force One, a group of approximately 200 highly-trained emergency personnel which deployed to New York City in the immediate aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

“I met with first responders and toured their training facility to ensure they’re receiving the federal support needed to keep our communities safe,” said Senator Gardner. “We also discussed my bill to permanently reauthorize the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, so first responders like those I met in Lakewood who deployed to Ground Zero with Colorado Task Force One are not forgotten. After all they’ve done for us, our nation cannot and will not turn its back on them.”

In addition to his Lakewood Main Street Walking Tour, Gardner visited numerous local businesses in Trinidad and Gunnison. Gardner toured the farmer’s market in Castle Rock, where he discussed agriculture issues and the economy with local farmers. He also visited the potato packing plant in Monte Vista, where he held a roundtable with county representatives.

He met with Mineral County elected officials about the county’s economic situation, and discussed flood prevention at Henson Creek with Hinsdale County officials.
