It’s National Farmers Market Week, and we’ve got a lot to celebrate. There are nearly 9,000 farmers markets listed in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service’s (AMS) National Farmers Market Directory. For comparison, in 2000, the same database listed only 2,863 markets!
Farmers markets benefit all parties involved. Consumers get better access to healthy foods, farmers receive a larger cut of the food dollar, and rural communities experience job creation and economic growth – it really is a win-win-win.
