CFB: State Patrol Helps Reduce Trucking Regulations on Fire Relief Supplies

– The Colorado State Patrol has lifted certain transportation regulations in order to ease the shipping of fire relief materials and supplies. In response to the Northeast Colorado fire, certain provisions of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, as well as fuel and registration tax permits have been waived for commercial carriers through April 8th. The order should also aide in getting supplies to other fire impacted areas in Kansas, Oklahoms, and Texas.

On March 6th, a grass fire charred 32,000 acres in the largest eastern slope fire in decades. The fires devastated fragile sand hills range land, killed livestock, burned houses and outbuildings, and left many producers with little left to make a living.

The damage created an immediate need for livestock feed, fencing supplies, erosion control materials and other supplies which in many cases require the need for commercial carriers to transport.
