Champions named in NWSS junior Limousin show
Members of the North American Limousin Junior Association paraded their Limousin and Lim-Flex entries in the 2017 National Western Stock Show junior show. The show was held Tuesday, January 10 in the NWSS Stadium Arena, Denver. Judge Jon DeClerck, Lubbock, Texas, evaluated the 18 Limousin and 34 Lim-Flex animals. Continue reading
FSMA Grower Food Safety Training Course Set for Feb. 20, Denver, Colo.
The Colorado Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association (CFVGA) and Rocky Mountain Farmers Union (RMFU) will host a Produce Safety Training, Feb. 20
at the Renaissance Denver Stapleton Hotel. Completion of this Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) training will enable growers to comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) that went into effect last year. Continue reading

NPC: Potato Growers Select 2017 NPC Leadership
Washington, D.C. – At the National Potato Council’s (NPC) 2017 Annual Meeting January 6-7 in San Francisco, Dwayne Weyers of Aspen Produce, LLC, in Center, Colorado, was elected to serve as NPC’s 2017 President and to lead the council’s Executive Committee. USDA Farm Service Agency Offers Text Alerts to Weld County Producers
Subscribers Can Receive Important Program Reminders and Updates
(Greeley, CO) – (01/10/2017) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Jeff Wilson in Weld County announced that farmers and ranchers in Colorado now can receive notifications from their FSA county office through text messages on their cell phone.
“In addition to the free FSA GovDelivery email news, customers now can choose to receive text message alerts from their county office,” said Wilson. “These text messages inform producers of important program deadlines, reporting requirements, outreach events, and updates.” Continue reading

Colorado Livestock Association President, Nolan Stone, shares his thoughts about the future of the livestock industry and of the Association
Nolan Stone, President of the Colorado Livestock Association, is a fifth generation Colorado cattlemen who was raised near Karval, 17 miles southeast of Punkin Center. For the past 17 years, Nolan has worked for JBS Five Rivers Cattle Feeding, LLC and is the General Manager of the Kuner Feedyard near Kersey. When he isn’t working, family time for Nolan and his wife, Jodi, means watching their two kids Shae and Dylan play softball and baseball, watching Shae show steers and spending time managing their family’s cattle business; a diversified spring and fall calving cow herd and stocker operation on leased ranches throughout Colorado.
What is your favorite part of the cattle business?
My favorite part of the cattle business is the people. For the most part, the industry is made up of people with a high degree of integrity and pride. Folks are passionate about this industry, and at our foundation, we are all stockmen, which allows us to interact daily with a group that have this common thread. Continue reading
