Fort Collins’ state Representatives Jeni Arndt and Joann Ginal, both Democrats, were named chairs of the House Agriculture, Livestock and Natural Resources and Health, Insurance and Environment committees, respectively.
State Sen. Kevin Lundberg, a Berthoud Republican whose district covers much of unincorporated Larimer County, was named chair of the Senate Appropriations committee. He will also serve on the joint budget committee.
Leadership roles are determined by the controlling party in each chamber. Republicans control the state Senate, while Democrats hold the House of Representatives.
Arndt was re-elected unopposed to her seat and has made water a primary focus for the past two sessions. Ginal has run several health-related bills in her past two terms, including a law to allow doctors to prescribe life-ending medication to terminally ill patients. That bill failed to gain traction the past two sessions, but a similar measure was overwhelmingly passed by voters statewide in November.
