2017-colorado-cowboy-poetry-gathering-performer-group-picThe Colorado Cowboy Poetry Gathering celebrates it’s 28th Anniversary in 2017 and with it carries on a quarter century of cowboy heritage, traditions and entertainment. Cowboy poetry is a form of poetry which grew out of the traditions of workers on cattle drives and ranches. After a long day in the saddle, cowboys would gather around a campfire and entertain one another with tall tales and folk songs… and so goes the story called Cowboy Poetry.

This year’s event features a blockbuster line up of headlining performers:

▪ Jon Chandler
▪ D.W. Groethe
▪ Kristyn Harris
▪ Susie Knight
▪ Liz Mastersnon
▪ Mark Gardner & Rex Rideout
▪ Yampa Valley Boys
▪ Doris Daley
▪ Richard Elloyan & Steve Wade
▪ Carol Heuchan
▪ Yvonne Hollenbeck
▪ Gary McMahan
▪ Al “Doc” Mehl
▪ Pop Wagner
▪ Skip Gorman

During the Colorado Cowboy Poetry Gathering, cowboy poets, western singers and old fashioned yodelers bring to life the joys and hardships of the old west. Audiences can take a break from the fast-paced, high-tech world and relive the life of the true cowboy. First timers and old hands will be entertained and inspired by our cowboy and cowgirl poets and musicians. Their poems, songs and witticisms about how life was and still is on farms, ranches and the range, bridge the past with the present. There will be some familiar faces and some of the best poets and singers we have ever herded into one corral!

Since family life is an important part of the ranching culture, we have also added plenty of programming for families with little buckaroos. Our Daytime Themed Sessions and SundayMatinee are a perfect event for the entire family – hear songs and stories of ranchers, cattle drives, life in the Outback of Australia and the love of the land. These Theme Sessions include Women of the West, Today’s Cowboy, Multi-cultural Roots, Cowboy and Western Humor, Cowboy Classics and many more.

28 years ago this “campfire” tradition was brought to the stage and has allowed all to join in the music, poetry and nostalgia ever since.
