2016 Wyoming Stock Growers Association Winter Roundup Convention & Trade Show – “Responding to Challenge”
Cheyenne – The 2016 Winter Roundup, hosted by the Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA) will be in Casper, Wyo., December 5-7 at the Parkway Plaza and Convention Center. The theme, “Responding to Challenge,” will lead into and educational and exciting convention for cattlemen and women across the state.
The convention focuses on education and networking for ranchers across the state with discussions on agricultural, environmental issues and family succession planning.
“Each year WSGA strives to present a convention that focuses on meeting the challenges and defining the opportunities that lie ahead for Wyoming ranchers,” states Jim Magagna, WSGA Executive Vice President. “My goal is to ensure that convention attendees depart a little more knowledgeable and a lot more determined, with a commitment toward the success that is achievable when we work as a team”
Pre-registration for the event is open until November 28 with full price registration being available after that date and at the convention.
The convention begins on Monday with the Progressive Rancher Forum where various topics such as Application of Drones into Agriculture, Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD), Fitting Calving Times to Your Area and a Young Producers Panel: Our Perspective of Getting Started in Ranching. The Make it With Wool Luncheon starts at 12:15 PM and is followed by the Branding Iron Bar and Reception at 6:30 PM. The convention continues Tuesday with a continental breakfast and Opening General Session where we welcome WSGA President, Niels Hansen and Keynote Speaker Jolene Brown of Iowa.
Brown is a walking-talking spokesperson and consultant for the family-owned business. With her keen insight and result-centered approach, she’s been invited to sit at lots of kitchen tables and family business meeting rooms. Jolene has learned what works and what doesn’t. She understands the unique challenges facing parents, siblings, in-laws and “outlaws” who work together.
“This convention is sure to offer something for everyone,” states Niels Hansen, WSGA President. “We have a full slate of issues to review and discuss. We have the opportunity to enjoy a nationally recognized speaker and as always a chance to get together with friends and neighbors for a little fun. I look forward to seeing everyone in Casper.”
Continuing sessions of WSGA committee meetings start at 10:30 AM and conclude at 5:45 PM. The day concludes with the Belly-Up Bar & Auction on Tuesday December 6th at 6:30 PM where Live and Silent Auction items from across the state will be up for bid. Wednesday starts with the Legislative Breakfast where a legislative update will be available to convention attendees. The Closing General session will follow with topics of “Revitalizing Tired Pastures” with speaker Jill Clapperton and information regarding Trade & Marketing Challenges given by a National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Officer. WSGA Luncheon and Banquet starts at 12:15 PM and will feature the Wyoming Game & Fish/Wyoming Department of Agriculture Landowner Access Awards, a WSGA Special Recognition program and the announcement of the 2017 Leopold Conservation Award finalist recognition.
The mission of the WSGA is to serve the cattle industry by protecting its economic, legislative, regulatory, judicial, environmental, customs, and cultural interests.
