08-05-16 “STATE YOUR PURPOSE”, a message from CSU’s Dept of Animal Sciences…

CSU College of Ag Sciences Dept of Animal Sciences logoCSU Animal Sciences Alumni and Friends,

As a new school year approaches, we look forward to reuniting with our returning students and welcoming our new students to an exciting time in the Department of Animal Sciences at CSU. Our anticipation for their arrival is accompanied by an excitement for a future we believe is brighter than ever before. As we move ahead, it is important that we assess our current success, identify our challenges, and collectively formulate a vision for unparalleled success in our endeavors.

Here are a few of the many items we’re focusing on:

Successes:
  • Record enrollment (2015: 822 students) and 4th largest undergraduate department on the CSU campus
  • Fully renovated Animal Sciences Building with state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, and open gathering spaces
  • Addition of more than 12 faculty and staff members
  • Record-breaking fundraising efforts for scholarships, research, and facilities, including the planned addition of the Global Food Innovation Center In Honor Of Gary & Kay Smith, which we will begin construction on in early 2017
  • Revitalized commitment to hands-on education and experiential learning
Challenges:
  • Identifying critical teaching facilities such as ARDEC and the Global Food Innovation Center as the Livestock Pavilion was removed in January 2016
  • Affordability of higher education for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Adapting curriculum and experiences to educate a student population with diverse agricultural experiences and backgrounds

The possibilities that lie within reach of the Department of Animal Sciences are tremendous and we are excited for what is to come. We are eager to engage you – alumni, friends, and value partners – in crafting a vision for a future that represents the traditions of success and excellence at CSU.

We hope that you can join fellow Animal Sciences alumni and friends at these upcoming events:

  • Livestock Judging Golf Tournament and Departmental Listening Session (Friday, Aug. 12)
  • Animal Sciences Social and Departmental Visioning Session in conjunction with
  • Colorado Pork Producers Council Annual Meeting (Thursday, Aug. 25)
  • Animal Sciences Social & Livestock Leader Award (Friday, Sept. 16)
