NPPC URGES PRODUCERS TO SUBMIT COMMENTS ON ORGANIC ANIMAL WELFARE RULES
NPPC is encouraging pork producers to weigh in on new organic animal welfare standards proposed by USDA. If promulgated, it would be the first time welfare standards are codified in federal law and would present serious challenges to livestock producers, according to NPPC. The organization is urging producers to submit by the July 13 deadline comments in opposition to the proposed rules, which not only wouldn’t change the concept of “organic” but could be broadened to encompass conventional livestock production.
