Gov. Hickenlooper to visit Brazil for Biennial of the Americas and trade & investment mission

DENVER — Monday, June 20, 2016 — Gov. John Hickenlooper, Mayor Michael Hancock and a delegation of 54 Colorado business, academic and civic leaders depart today for the 2016 Biennial Summit to Brazil, organized by Biennial of the Americas.

The trip focuses on the Summit, and enhancing the visibility of Colorado’s business environment to current and potential investors.

“Attending the 2016 Biennial Summit to Brazil will help us develop a deeper understanding of the business and cultural climate in the Americas, as well as strengthen our relationships with global business leaders who already have a footprint in Colorado,” said Hickenlooper. “We look forward to creating deeper ties between Brazil, Colorado and the Americas as a whole, and to having discussions about our state’s innovative business environment to potential foreign investors.”

The mission will include meetings with Brazilian government officials and cultural and business leaders in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The delegation will focus on expanding and strengthening economic, tourism and cultural ties, as well as attending the 2016 Biennial of the Americas Summit.

Highlights of the Trip

Tuesday, June 21, 2016, São Paulo

Gov. Hickenlooper will attend the “Comunitas: the private sector sharing management knowledge with city governments” panel discussion at the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art. Comunitas is focused on social corporate investment and fostering the engagement of the private sector in the social and economic development of Brazil.

Gov. Hickenlooper will take part in two panel discussions: “Transparency and Sustainability in Public Administration” and “Drug Policy and Restorative Justice: How to Make Policy Work” with other Brazilian government officials.

Wednesday, June 22, 2016, São Paulo

Gov. Hickenlooper will take part in a Food and Agriculture roundtable discussion. The roundtable will convene leaders in the food and agriculture sectors to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the food production and export sectors in Brazil and Colorado. Participants will share their experiences, foster connections and establish potential trade relationships.

Gov. Hickenlooper will meet with Level 3 Brazilian business executives and take a tour of the company’s first Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) scrubbing center, a cybersecurity facility, which is their first in Latin America.

Gov. Hickenlooper will receive an economic briefing from Itaú Unibanco’s Chief Economist, Caio Megale.

Gov. Hickenlooper will attend the Humanitas360 partners, Endeavor & Young Social Entrepreneurs event. Humanitas360 is an innovative think-do tank aimed at creating a citizen-centered environment by empowering individuals and forging a new social pact between people and institutions.

Gov. Hickenlooper will tour the Museu do Futebol and then listen to a presentation by Pedro Mariani of Ambev about their work in environmental sustainability and water conservation.

Thursday, June 23, 2016, Rio de Janeiro

Gov. Hickenlooper will tour Projac, the main center of television production for of the Organizações Globo and is Latin America’s largest audio-visual production center.

The delegation will then attend a panel discussion on the economic impacts of hosting the Olympics and to learn firsthand the planning process undertaken by the host committee in the lead-up to this year’s summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Friday, June 24, 2016, Rio de Janeiro

Gov. Hickenlooper will attend a panel discussion titled “Entrepreneurship in Rio’s Vulnerable Communities: The Case of Complexo do Alemão.”

Gov. Hickenlooper will tour Espaço NAVE a business incubator focussed on start-ups.
