Cattlemen’s Land Trust to celebrate conservation at The Bluffs on June 25th

CCALT logo new 042815DENVER< CO – June 2, 2016 – The Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust (CCALT) will hold its 11th annual Forever Colorado BBQ at The Bluffs in Byers, Colorado on Saturday, June 25th.  The Forever Colorado BBQ celebrates Colorado’s family farming and ranching heritage and working lands conservation, and raises awareness for the mission and work of CCALT. The BBQ is hosted by landowners in different regions of Colorado every year.  Proceeds from the BBQ are used by CCALT to conserve working ranches throughout the state and to preserve Colorado’s unique western heritage.

“As a family, we work day in and day out to ensure that the lands we have inherited, can continue on for future generations,” said Russell MacLennan. “The MacLennan family is happy to be hosting the Forever Colorado BBQ this year.”

The 2016 BBQ will begin with a series of special activities including a tour of the ranch (sponsored by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service), followed by cocktails, dinner, and live entertainment from the local band Bird Dawgs. Bids for auction items that will be available at the BBQ can be placed online in advance of the event at www.biddingforgood.com/ccalt.

In the last 21 years, CCALT has partnered with more than 230 Colorado farming and ranching families to conserve more than 465,000 acres of productive agricultural land. CCALT is currently working with another 25 families on conservation projects in several counties across the state.

To do its work, CCALT uses a tool known as a conservation easement. A conservation easement is a are voluntary and a private property right that that can help farming and ranching families.

”The Forever Colorado BBQ is an opportunity to come together to celebrate agriculture in Colorado and the many families – like this year’s BBQ host the MacLennan family who produce the food we need to feed a growing population. It is also an opportunity to learn about the challenges that face agriculture and the preservation of Colorado’s family farming and ranching traditions,” said Erik Glenn, CCALT executive director.

Tickets are available for the June 25th event, which will begin at 5 p.m. Tickets are $150 per person for general admission. All proceeds will go toward CCALT’s working lands conservation efforts statewide.   For more information, or to RSVP, visit the event website at www.ccalt.org or email Alyssa Street at alyssa@ccalt.org.
