Wyoming Stock Growers Association 2016 Summer Convention “Educating for Ranching Success in the 21st Century”
The 2016 Wyoming Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show will be held June 1-4 at the UW Conference Center/Hilton Garden Inn in Laramie, Wyo., and will revolve around the theme “Educating for Ranching Success in the 21st Century” with a focus on giving resources to convention attendees to improve their ranching operation. Hosted by the Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA), the annual convention is open to members, non-members, state and the local media. This convention will feature a myriad of presentations from the University of Wyoming College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Wyoming Congressional Delegation, Congressional Candidate Forum as well as a special educational session from Zoetis called the Zoetis Cattlemen’s College featuring Dr. Kent Anderson, Director of Genetics for Cattle and & Equine Technical Service and Dave Pratt, Ranch Management Consultants, Inc.
Wednesday, June 1 will start the convention with registration opening at 2 p.m. and a welcome reception at 6 p.m. During this time trade show vendors will set up and be available to view.
On Thursday, June 2 at 8:00 a.m., the convention will feature a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Frank Galey from the University of Wyoming College of Agriculture and Natural Resources about “Preparing the Next Generation of Wyoming Ranchers” followed by Ethan Lane, Public Lands Council Executive Director and Shawn Reese of the Wyoming Business Council to start the opening general session.
Following these presentations, committee meetings will begin and the Cattlemen’s Club Luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m. At 4:00 p.m. the Young Producers Assembly, WSGA’s most recent addition, will hold their business meeting. The night will conclude at 6 p.m. with the Reception, Raffle and Auction. This event will be held at the UW Conference Center with entertainment by the local Wyoming band The Squash Blossoms.
On Friday, June 3, the day will be dedicated to the Zoetis Cattlemen’s College with two educational speakers presenting. Dr. Kent Andersen, Director of Genetics for Cattle & Equine Technical Service for Zoetis will speak at 8:00 a.m. regarding “DNA Testing to Enhance Profitability.” Starting at 9:45 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Dave Pratt from Ranch Management Consultants, Inc. will hold a two part speaking session regarding “The Three Secrets for Increasing Profit.” Dave is well known for his work and guidance at Ranching for Profit sessions held across the nation. At 12:00 p.m., Wyoming Governor Matt Mead will address the WSGA membership at the Awards Luncheon and present the winning applicant the Clifford P. Hansen Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 towards the student’s studies as well as the presentation of the Leopold Conservation Award to the SR Cattle Company of Sheridan, WY. The night will conclude with a banquet at 7:30 p.m. in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center with special guest and speaker Dr. Laurie Nichols, President of the University of Wyoming.
On Saturday, June 4 at 7:30 a.m., starts with the Roundup Breakfast featuring invited guests Representative Cynthia Lummis as a speaker with representatives from U.S. Senator Mike Enzi’s and U.S. Senator John Barrasso’s office also addressing the WSGA membership.
At 8:30 a.m. on Saturday the convention will hold the final General Session featuring annual reports from the Wyoming stock Growers Land Trust, Wyoming Beef Council, Wyoming CattleWomen, Wyoming Young Producers Assembly and Wyoming Stock Growers Association regarding work they have done throughout 2016 so far and plan to do in the time ahead. After this, any Congressional Candidates that are able to join the Convention will have the opportunity to address the WSGA membership and guests regarding their campaign. At 10:15 the convention will conclude.
