The North American Limousin Foundation (NALF) has awarded the Promoter of the Year award to Ray Krones, West Chicago, Ill. Krones is the livestock procurement director for Strauss Brands, Inc., a company committed to ethically raised, family farmed beef, veal and lamb. The Promoter of the Year award is presented annually to an individual or firm who expanded the reach of Limousin genetics in a profound way. The presentation took place during the NALF activities at the National Western Stock Show held in Denver, Colo.
In January of 2008, Strauss Brands and NALF entered into an historic partnership. Working together, they are supporting both Limousin producers and consumers alike by producing veal according to authentic, old-world, pasture-raising traditions for Strauss Free Raised Veal. Strauss chose the Limousin breed because of its flavor and quality, after extensive testing of many breeds for this program.
Frank Padilla, NALF director of marketing, in presenting Krones the award stated, “Tonight we are celebrating enthusiasm, commitment and sheer hard work. The person we honor tonight has traveled thousands of miles. Has spent many-a-day away from his family. Has promoted and educated many producers to a program that created marketing opportunities for users of Limousin genetics.”
To date more than 45,000 head of calves with Limousin genetics have gone into this value added program.
