CHEYENNE – January 7th, 2014 – Nominations are being sought for the 2015 Leopold Conservation Award in Wyoming. The award recognizes Wyoming ranchers who demonstrate outstanding, sustainable management of natural resources, and is presented by Sand County Foundation, the Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA) and Peabody Energy.
The annual award, which is presented as the most prestigious award within the Wyoming Stock Growers Association’s Environmental Stewardship Program, includes a check for $10,000 and an automatic entry into the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s national awards program.
The Leopold Conservation Award is given in nine states in honor of famed conservationist and author Aldo Leopold, who called for an ethical relationship between people and the land they own and manage.
“The WSGA Environmental Stewardship Program has recognized the careful management of our natural resources by Wyoming’s ranchers since 1996,” WSGA Executive Vice President Jim Magagna said. “Each year WSGA and our partners look forward to honoring outstanding landowners for the contribution they make to our state’s economy, environment and culture.”
“Each recipient of this award in Wyoming is an exceptional steward of our natural resources,” said Sand County Foundation President Brent Haglund, Ph.D. “And we look forward to honoring more outstanding ranching families in Wyoming.”
The deadline for nominations is July 31 2014. All materials must be mailed to: Leopold Conservation Award c/o Wyoming Stock Growers Association PO Box 206, Cheyenne, WY 82003.
