US Congressman Cory GardnerWASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Cory Gardner (CO-04) released the following statement on the President’s speech about energy:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Rep. Cory Gardner (R-CO) joined a group of nearly 70 members from both parties and both chambers of Congress to announce a package of legislation to make government work.

The event, promoted by the group No Labels, highlighted nine bipartisan bills ranging from legislation that would combine electronic medical records at the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs to a bill that would reduce federal agency travel by replacing it with video conferencing. Included in the legislative package is H.R. 2689, Gardner’s bipartisan energy efficiency bill he introduced with Rep. Peter Welch, a Democrat from Vermont.

“There’s no shortage of fighting going on in Washington,” Gardner said. “Vigorous disagreement on issues is not only an important part of our democratic history, it’s also critical to our country’s future success. But there are some areas that are being ignored right now where we can use common ground leadership to promote common sense solutions. That’s why I introduced legislation with Rep. Peter Welch that would save taxpayer money, create jobs, and reduce the government’s energy consumption. Rep. Welch and I may disagree on plenty of issues, but we both know the importance of finding common ground where possible to find solutions to today’s challenges.”

Congressman Gardner is a member in the U.S. House of Representatives serving Colorado’s 4th Congressional District. He sits on the Energy and Commerce Committee and is a member of the following Subcommittees: Communications and Technology, Energy and Power, and Oversight and Investigations.
