April 29, 1995 – June 4, 2013

Mitchell Jay Bowman, 18, of Gill, Colorado, died of natural causes June 4 in Peckham. He was born in Greeley April 29, 1995, to Lianne (Norman) Bowman of Gill and William Bowman of Ault.

Mitchell grew up raising cattle with his family and loved everything about ranching. He dreamed of carrying on his family’s tradition of improving beef genetics through breeding, feeding cattle, and operating his own farm and ranch. Toward that goal, he bred and raised a small herd of cattle with the support of his parents and the Sidwells.

An upcoming senior at Platte Valley High School in Kersey, he was an FFA member and thrived in his Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) in ag occupations with Webb Farms in Gilcrest. As an 8-year member of Countryside Ag 4-H Club, Mitchell showed sheep and breeding beef cattle at the Weld County Fair, Colorado State Fair, National Western Stock Show and Junior Nationals. He was past-president of the club and enjoyed helping younger members learn the skills he had acquired. Mitchell was also a member of the Colorado and American Maine-Anjou associations.

Mitchell loved to ride his horse, move cattle and trail riding. He had just begun to learn to rope and enjoyed practicing with the roping dummy. Mitchell was a natural with livestock; he had a gentle way of getting animals to trust him. His big smile was meant for everyone, and there is no one Mitchell would not have stopped to help.

Mitchell belonged to the Eaton Evangelical-Free Church, where he loved the youth group. He traveled with the missions team last year to Haiti and across the U.S. This summer he looked forward to accompanying middle schoolers on their Colorado Springs mission trip as an adult sponsor, and as a member of the high school missions team to New York.

Mitchell will be missed greatly by his sister, Lindsay of Fayetteville, Ark., and brother Zane of Gill; grandparents Lucille Bowman of Greeley and Howard and Linda Norman of Windsor. The treasured aunts, uncles and cousins who will miss Mitchell are: Cole Bowman of California and his children Kimberly and Levi; Steve Bowman of Galeton, Lynn (Craig) Collins of Ault, Jeff Bowman of Fredonia, ND, and his son Ben; Dana (Julie) Bowman of Eaton and their children Bryce and Kara; and Matt (Kim) Bowman of Fort Lupton and their children Sydney and Eli; Suzanne (Michael) Lipe of Fort Collins and their son Doug; Richard Norman of Windsor and his daughters Kandi, Amber and Braydee; and Chris (Karen) Norman of Fort Collins and their daughter Annalis.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather Bryce Bowman of Ault.

Mitchell will be remembered for his big smile and love for children, which was rooted in his authentic, personal faith in Jesus Christ.

Public visitation 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 9 and memorial service 1 p.m. June 10 at Eaton Evangelical Free Church, 1325 3rd Street, Eaton. Private interment at Eaton Cemetery.
