LAKEWOOD, Colo. – As spring rolls into summer, tents are popping up and farmers’ markets are opening. For 29 years the Colorado Department of Agriculture has been helping consumers find farmers’ markets, roadside stands, u-picks, wineries and agritourism activities through the Colorado Farm Fresh Directory.
“This is an exciting time of year, when local produce, meat and other food favorites can be found at farmers’ markets,” said Wendy White, marketing specialist for the Colorado Department of Agriculture. “Consumers really look forward to the Colorado Farm Fresh Directory every year because it helps them connect with local producers.”
The 2013 Colorado Farm Fresh Directory features more than 200 farms, ranches, roadside stands, u-picks and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs as well as more than 110 farmers’ markets across the state. Farm Fresh also includes farms that offer tours, wineries, corn mazes, pumpkin patches and farm and ranch vacations. In addition, the free directory includes county fairs, a crop calendar, food and agricultural festivals and tips for picking Colorado produce.
The directory is available for free at participating libraries, chambers of commerce, welcome centers, visitor centers, CSU Extension offices and other businesses. It is also accessible online at www.coloradoagriculture.com/farmfresh.
The directory is sponsored by the Colorado Farmers’ Market Association, Colorado Fresh Markets, Colorado MarketMaker, Colorado Wine Industry Development Board, Delta County Tourism, DeVries Produce Stand, Douglas County Farm Bureau, Longmont Dairy Farm, Metro Denver Farmers’ Market, Miller Farms, Rock Creek Farm, and Royal Crest Dairy.
