WASHINGTON, January 8, 2013 – Agriculture Under Secretary for Rural Development Dallas Tonsager today announced that USDA has awarded loans and grants to 12 organizations to construct, purchase and rehabilitate rural, multi-family, farm labor housing properties.
“The Obama Administration is committed to helping all residents in rural America,” said Tonsager. “This program provides clean, safe, affordable housing to rural farm labor residents.” USDA Rural Development’s Farm Labor Housing program provides loans and grants to increase the number of housing units for domestic farm laborers.
In Colorado, the Colorado Community Resources and Housing Development Corporation was awarded a $2,000,000 loan and a $1,000,000 grant to build a 50 unit farm labor complex in Fort Morgan, CO. The complex, Sol Naciente, will feature both three and four bedroom units. Once completed, Colorado Rural Development will have 12 farm labor housing complexes throughout the state.

President Obama’s plan for rural America has brought about historic investment and resulted in stronger rural communities. Under the President’s leadership, these investments in housing, community facilities, businesses and infrastructure have empowered rural America to continue leading the way – strengthening America’s economy, small towns and rural communities. USDA’s investments in rural communities support the rural way of life that stands as the backbone of our American values. President Obama and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack are committed to a smarter use of Federal resources to foster sustainable economic prosperity and ensure the government is a strong partner for businesses, entrepreneurs and working families in rural communities.
USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, administers and manages housing, business and community infrastructure programs through a national network of state and local offices. Rural Development has an active portfolio of more than $176 billion in loans and loan guarantees. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America.
