Sioux Falls, SD (November 19, 2012) – During a meeting Friday, November 16, the American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) Board of Directors elected officers for 2013. Ron Alverson, Chairman of Dakota Ethanol LLC, was elected President of the Board by his peers. He will replace Lars Herseth, who served as ACE President since 2010.
Alverson farms with his son Keith and his brother Larry; they raise corn and soybeans at their farm near Madison, SD. He is a founding member and past president of the South Dakota Corn Growers Association and served on the National Corn Growers Association board of directors in 1991 and 1992. Alverson was a founding member and chairman of Lake Area Corn Processors LLC, the owner entity of Dakota Ethanol LLC, and continues to serve as Chairman of LACP. Dakota Ethanol was the first farmer-owned ethanol plant in South Dakota. In 2009 Alverson was named Dakota Farmer Magazine Master Farmer and Eminent Farmer by South Dakota State University. He was elected to the ACE board in 2009 and was appointed to the ACE Executive Committee that same year.
Other officers elected by the ACE board for 2013 include Brian Wilcox of the Nebraska Public Power District as Vice President, Duane Kristensen of Chief Ethanol Fuels as Secretary, and Owen Jones of Full Circle Ag, a farmer-owned cooperative, as Treasurer. The officers will be joined by Herseth and Scott Parsley of East River Electric Cooperative on the ACE Executive Committee.
“On behalf of ACE members, we are grateful for the dedicated and timely leadership Lars Herseth provided as President, and will continue to provide as a key board member,” said Brian Jennings, ACE Executive Vice President. “We are also honored that Ron Alverson will serve as our new President. Ron is humble and doesn’t seek the spotlight, but his experience, integrity, and passion for agriculture and ethanol is unmatched and we are privileged to have such an outstanding person lead our grassroots, member-driven organization.”
“I’m thrilled to be the new Board President of ACE, I think it’s a great organization, and I am enthusiastic about working with ACE members and staff on a forward-looking action plan to expand market access for ethanol, win the battle over the RFS, and secure the profitable future for our industry,” said Alverson.
“It’s been an honor to serve as ACE President and I am looking forward to continuing to serve the organization on the board of directors,” said Herseth. “We’ve got a number of industry challenges and opportunities to tackle and I’m confident ACE is poised to continue to make a positive difference.”
