Introduction by Greg Hobbs, Justice, Colorado Supreme Court - A book club featuring Colorado authors has been established as a part of Water 2012. Two of their featured books were written by the authors Craig Childs and Jon Waterman.

House of Rain - Craig Childs - The rhythm of drought and abundance are the clock of the Southwest, the calendar we live by across centuries and millennia. Craig will give a revealing discussion of ancient migrations, springs, and rain. The various tribes that made up the Anasazi people converged on Chaco Canyon (New Mexico) during the 11th century to create a civilization hailed as “the Las Vegas of its day,” a flourishing cultural center that attracted pilgrims from far and wide, and a vital crossroads of the prehistoric world. By the 13th century, however, Chaco’s vibrant community had disappeared without a trace.

The Colorado River Flowing Through Conflict - Jon Waterman - Supplying vital water to more than 30 million Americans living in the arid West, the Colorado River is one of the most diverted and heavily litigated rivers in the world. Jon will present his full-color, photo essay, The Colorado River: Flowing Through Conflict. He follows the river’s epic 1,450-mile journey from its headwaters n the Colorado Rockies to its delta touching the Sea of Cortez. Through striking photography, Jon will illuminate the historical, geographical, and environmental significance of this life-giving river.

W.D. Farr, Cowboy in the Boardroom - Dan Tyler - “Always a better way” was WD Farr’s motto. As a Colorado rancher, banker, cattle feeder, and expert in irrigation, Farr (1910–2007) had a unique talent for building consensus and instigating change in an industry known for its conservatism. With his persistent optimism and gregarious personality, Farr’s influence extended from next-door neighbors and business colleagues to U.S. presidents and foreign dignitaries. WD was a third-generation descendant of western farming pioneers, who specialized in sheep feeding. While learning all he could from his father and grandfather, WD developed a new vision: to make cattle profitable.
