Denver Indian Health & Family Services, Inc. Denver Colorado $80,000.00

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today announced awards totaling $10 million to aid 129 organizations across the country that would like to become community health centers.  These funds, made available by the Affordable Care Act, support organizations’ development as a future health center.

Health centers improve the health of the nation and assure access to quality primary health care services at more than 8,100 service delivery sites around the country.  Health centers provide comprehensive, high-quality preventive and primary health care to patients regardless of their ability to pay; charges for services are set according to income.

“Supporting the development of new community health centers will help us meet the healthcare needs of millions while supporting local jobs and economic growth in communities nationwide,” said Secretary Sebelius.

Town Meetings Update
Since November 2 of last year, I have held over 40 town hall meeting throughout the 18 counties of the 4th Congressional District and met with hundreds of local businesses and constituents. This week, I traveled to Washington, Morgan, Logan, Sedgwick, Philips and Weld Counties for my latest round of town meetings.
Jobs and the economy were at the forefront of most people’s minds, and I had the opportunity to talk about the work my colleagues and I are doing to get the economy back on track. Last month, I launched a “One More Job” initiative seeking advice from job creators on what it would take for them to hire an additional employee. It is my goal to take their advice back to Washington, and we have already sent some of the responses to the White House.
Since we were visiting lots of rural communities, I heard lots of concerns about looming post office closures. I’m currently in the process of sending a letter to the Postmaster General urging him to consider the economic and public impact post office closures will have on rural areas. We have suggested potential alternatives and are working with the rest of the Colorado delegation on this issue.
