Colorado Remembers 9/11
10th Anniversary Commemorative Concert
September 11, 2011, marks the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In remembrance of this national tragedy, Governor John Hickenlooper (and the State of Colorado) and Mayor Michael Hancock (and the City and County of Denver), in partnership with The Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab (The CELL), The Denver Post and AEGLive Rocky Mountains, are hosting a commemorative event and concert to honor victims, first responders, and members of the U.S. Armed Forces on September 11, 2011, at Civic Center Park, Denver, CO (Colfax and Broadway) from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm. The event will feature a special musical tribute by The Beach Boys, Tyler Ward and a performance by the Colorado Symphony. The program will begin with a remembrance procession, led by the Colorado National Guard, firefighters, law enforcement, first responders and memorial pipes and drums, which will be followed a presentation by the Honor Guard, a wreath laying ceremony, firing salute, taps, and a military flyover.
Lawn seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis; arriving early is greatly encouraged, as are the use of blankets or low-rise concert/beach chairs. Attendees are welcome to bring their own picnics; concessions as well as a beer garden will also be available on-site. The event will take place rain or shine.
Centered in the heart of downtown Denver, Civic Center Park is easily accessible through multiple modes of transportation, including light rail, bus, bicycle or the 16th Street FREE MallRide. Parking is available at nearby surface lots and parking garages, including the Central Parking lots/garages at 1530 Cleveland Place, Denver Pavilions (15th & Welton), 1256 Delaware, 1440 Tremont, 1200-1300 blocks of Cherokee and 1745 Sherman.

Patriot Day
September 11, 2001, was a defining moment in American history. On that day, an attack on our nation left many innocent people dead. By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001, the United States Congress designated September 11 of each year as Patriot Day. On Patriot Day, we remember the victims, and pay tribute to the firefighters, police officers, emergency personnel, and ordinary citizens who risked their lives so others might live.
World Trade Center (WTC) Memorial
The 9/11 Memorial dedication will be held September 11, 2011, the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, during a ceremony for victims’ families. The memorial will open to the public on September 12, 2011, and will welcome visitors who have reserved advance passes.
The 9/11 Memorial is located at the site of the former WTC complex, and occupies approximately half of the 16-acre site. The memorial features two waterfalls and reflecting pools, each about an acre in size, set within the “footprints” of the twin towers.
Pentagon Memorial
Shortly after the attack, Congress authorized the U.S. Secretary of Defense to create a permanent memorial on the grounds of the Pentagon.
Flight 93 National Memorial
During the September 11 attack, four hijacked commercial airliners struck targets on the ground. The actions of the 40 passengers and crew aboard Flight 93 prevented an attack on the U.S. Capitol orWhite House. According to the National Park Service (NPS), public and private donations contributed to the building of a national memorial in Shanksville, PA.
