December 27, 2011 - Colorado wheat producers are invited to attend and participate in the annual county business meetings and elections jointly sponsored by the Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee (CWAC) and the Colorado Association of Wheat Growers (CAWG). The business meetings and elections will be held January 9 – 12, at 8 different locations.
A special feature at some county meetings this year will be a wheat marketing presentation by Dan Maltby, commodity trading expert and former grain buyer with General Mills. CWAC/CAWG Executive Director Darrell Hanavan will review the current U.S. and world wheat situation at the other county meetings.
CWAC President Tom Neira strongly encourages all wheat farmers to attend.
“Not only will you get an update on CWAC and CAWG activities for the year, this is an opportunity to hear about grain marketing from someone who has been grain buyer for General Mills, as well as a private trader. You will get to hear the other side of the grain trade, from a perspective that you may not have considered,” Neira said.
Neira will discuss how funding from the producer-approved assessment is being invested in education, research and promotion programs.
CAWG President Randy Traxler will present an update on state and national legislative activities, including state budget issues and national issues on the horizon such as the 2012 Farm Bill.
CWAC and CAWG are two distinctly separate organizations with different but complementary purposes.
CWAC is the producer-elected Board of Control for the Colorado Wheat Marketing Order whose purpose is to decide how assessment funds are to be spent for research, promotion and education activities.
CAWG is a voluntary membership association that lobbies on behalf of wheat growers at the state and national levels of government and provides special programs and benefits to dues paying members.
