2010 Inductees Announced!

Make plans to join the Colorado FFA Foundation on February 18th, 2010 at the Renaissance Hotel in Denver for the induction ceremony.

The Colorado Agriculture Hall of Fame Banquet is held annually to honor those who have made significant contributions to our state and nation’s agricultural industry. All of the members’ portraits are displayed at the Colorado Department of Agriculture offices. Proceeds from the banquet support the Colorado FFA Foundation.

Dr. John Matsushima, Andrew Mair, Donald Norgren & Jim Read

Dr. John Matsushima of Ft. Collins began his legendary beef cattle nutrition practices at Colorado State University in the early sixties. He pioneered the process of steam flaking grains. This practice continues to be used in cattle feeding operations worldwide. During his 50 years of instruction he taught over 10,000 students, and served as major professor to 35 master degree and 20 Ph.D. candidates.

Andrew Mair (posthumously) farmed in Larimer County for fifteen years before becoming involved in The Colorado Farm Bureau. In 1954 he oversaw the Colorado Commodity Stabilization Service as the USDA Administrative officer. Through his government appointments Andrew represented Colorado and US agriculture in over 40 countries on five continents serving or consulting with 6 different Presidential administrations.

Donald Norgren of Platteville has long been associated with Hereford Cattle and The National Western Stock Show. He operated Norgren Cattle Company for more than thirty-four years raising registered and commercial cattle in three different Colorado counties. Since 1971 he has served on the National Western Stock Show Board of Directors with an emphasis on youth programs and “The Yards”.

Jim Read of Burns, WY began his long association with agriculture working on his family’s farm in Vermont. After time in the U.S. Air Force he became an Extension agent serving in Cheyenne, Prowers, and Logan Counties. Relying heavily on advisory boards to determine local needs, he used extensive research and demonstration plots to help improve farming practices at the grower level for nearly every crop produced in Colorado.

About the Colorado FFA Foundation

The Colorado FFA Foundation seeks resources – human, financial and in-kind – to support agricultural education in Colorado, including students (FFA, ATA and CYFEA), teachers (CVATA) and alumni.

In 1983, a group of volunteers organized the Colorado FFA Foundation to provide a strong support system for the Colorado FFA Association and its student members. In 1989, the Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit entity and began actively seeking funds to support Colorado Team Ag Ed and its members by funding leadership development, personal growth and career success activities, events and scholarships. In the past five years, the Foundation has raised and invested more than $500,000 in Colorado’s young people.
